The Tripoli Detachment was formed starting in January 1993, and received its Charter in May 1993. Meetings are held the second and forth Thursday of each month at 1830 hours (6:30) in Marion, Indiana at the Amvets Post #5. Membership is open to all Marines and FMF Corpsman that wear the FMF device. At the present time, our membership total is 44 regular members and two associate members.
The Detachment has a Funeral Firing Detail that does Honors at funerals in Grant County for Veterans regardless of their branch of military service. Most of the funerals that we do are at the Marion National Cemetery but we also do local cemeteries as well.
Some of the activities that we take part in are taking wheel chair patients to church at the Marion VA on Sunday mornings; taking part in the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Marion National Cemetery along with placing flags on the veterans graves on the Saturday prior to Memorial Day and then retrieving the flags the day after the ceremony; Posting and Retiring the Colors at the Wreaths Across America Ceremony in December.
The Detachment is also ready to assist any Marine or Marine family in the area. We have our own Military Order of Devil Dogs Pound #260. During the year, we try to have Saturday morning breakfast get togethers. At the 4H Fair in June the Detachment has a booth, in September we have a booth at the Matthews Covered Bridge Festival and at the Jonesboro River Rally where we do our annual fundraiser by raffling off an M1 Garand rifle.
Any Marines or FMF Corpsman interested in becoming a member or wanting more information, contact anyone of the Detachment Officers or fill out the application on this website and send it to:
